Bitters Are Back!
For those of you who have been following Humboldt Apothecary for a while, you might be excited to know that we have a new, limited release version of Bitters available called Drinking Bitters. For those of you who are new to HA’s Bitters, you’re in for a treat. Drinking Bitters are great for a variety of reasons. This formula is in an alcohol base which means that it partially bypasses your digestive system and you feel the effects fast. It also means that the tincture goes into solution in a drink seamlessly with no messy oil slick sitting at the top of your drink. And in a drink is exactly where this tincture belongs. Historically, bitters were sipped on to help aid digestion and then were eventually added to cocktails for flavor as well as a digestive aid. The elegant blend of aromatic herbs stimulate your digestive system to release enzymes that help your body to more effectively digest the food that you eat.
So, go ahead and pick up a bottle of Drinking Bitters and add them to your favorite drink. Not only will your taste buds thank you, but so will your belly!

Herb of The Month: Gentain
Meet gentian, otherwise known as Gentiana. Gentian grows around the world in temperate and alpine regions and typically produces little blue/purplish blue trumpet shaped flowers, which can be used to make blue dye. The root is the part of the plant that is primarily used medicinally, and is found in many classic bitters blends including Angostura Bitters. Due to its bitter properties, gentian can help increase appetite, alleviate bloating, and reduce heartburn. You’ll find gentian mixed with other aromatic herbs in Drinking Bitters. It makes a delightful addition to your favorite beverage and is a great way to prepare your body for a meal!
